What is LGB “EPL”?
To control electrical switches and signals, LGB invented the “EPL” system. The EPL system is an integrated program of switch drives, contacts, controls and other electric devices you can use for remote and automatic control of your layout.

On/Off Control Box / “Schaltpult” (DE)
- LGB 51800 – Discontinued, Lehmann era – Link
- LGB 51805 – Newer version, Märklin era – Link

The On/Off control box requires a power supply (check the manual for requirements).
Switch Control Box / “Stellpult” (DE)
Switches and signals can be controlled by using a switch control box from either LGB or PIKO. Both manufacturers offer a control box with four electrical switches, which means up to four switches or signals can be controlled.

- PIKO G 35260 – Link
The switch control box requires a power supply (check the manual for requirements).
Electric Switch Drive / “Weichenantrieb” (DE)
Both switch drives are listed as waterproof. I have only tested the PIKO drive in a completely-under-water situation, where it kept working flawlessly. Moisture isn’t the only challenge these drives have to face, dirt is one as well.
Supplementary Switch / “Zusatzschalter” (DE)
