Wheel Sizes
PIKO uses two different sized wheelsets for their passenger cars and freight cars.
- 30 mm diameter
- 35 mm diameter
The 30 mm diameter wheels are sometimes referred to as 29,5 mm. I don’t know the exact size, but recent publications all state 30 mm so I assume that is correct. The 30 mm wheels are slightly smaller than LGB’s wheels, which I believe are 31 mm diameter.
Which size is used for which rolling stock?
35 mm diameter:
- “Umbauwagen” / “Umbau” Passenger Cars (#37600 & …)
- “Nahverkerswagen” / “Silberlinge” / “Silver Coin” Passenger Cars (#37620 & …)
- “TEE” Passenger Cars (#37640 & …)
- “Reko” Passenger Cars (#37650 & …)
- German two-axle passenger cars (#37920 & …)
- German two-axle freight cars (#37900 & …)
30 mm diameter:
- all other German freight cars
- all American passenger and freight cars
Since 2015, PIKO also lists the wheel sizes in their G scale catalogue for easy identification.
